Some are recognized today for their accomplishments long ago, others are not...It is certain that those who watched these players perform would view them quite differently than the "experts" of today who decide who will be rewarded for past accomplishments. If only we could go back to the early part of the century and watch the Brooklyn Superbas confidently match their ace against Christy Mathewson, or Gavy Cravath hit a plethora of of home runs over the short wall in Philadelphia - anyone could have, but no one else did...or see Big Ed Reulbach pitch shut-outs in both ends of a double-header. And there were many others before these few, equally deserving, who also will never be enshrined, but absence from the HOF can not erase what these players accomplished.
